Mouth to Mouth

Share a breath with me. Receive a gift from an unknown other.

This one-to-one interaction celebrates breath as mutual interdependence and cycle of gift exchange.

Image: Rachel Gomme/Manuel Vason

Mouth to Mouth considers breath as cycle of giving and receiving, air shared with the other beings of our world. Inviting the viewer to exchange a gift of breath for a similar gift from an unknown other, it evokes both the transience of breath and the permanence of the trace left in the marking of the gift.

I'm pleased to be presenting Mouth to Mouth at the 'On Taking Care' symposium organised by Rosemary Lee and Martin Welton on 1 December 2012

Bodies in Space - Tim Jeeves/Rachel Gomme

As part of his Giving in to Gift project, in The Horse's Teeth, Tim Jeeves gifts a performance to each of six artists. I was presented with my gift, the one-to-one performance 'Bodies in Space', on 28 November at the Bluecoat in Liverpool.

Without Walls

As one of three pairs of artists commissioned for the 'Without Walls' project, Rachel Gomme and Charlotte Mew present a performance that traces and reflects on their process of collaboration over 5 weeks.

Meeting for the first time after they had been selected for the commission, Rachel and Charlotte embarked on a journey together, apart. Through a diary of found objects, each shared with the other her everyday journeys and exchanged something of her practice. The final performance, a promenade performance through the corridors of Chisenhale Dance Space and Chisenhale Art Place, uses objects, text, sound and movement to evoke both the sense of parallel journeys and the frustration of the not-quite-meeting amid busy lives.
